Tiger Beat magazine debuted in Septeber of 1965. The first year had a distinctive look, including a picture of Lloyd Thaxton on each issue. Thaxton was the host of a syndicated dance party TV show, and the publishers of Tiger Beat thought it was a good tie-in for the fledgeling publication. Thaxton's input ended when he decided to leave his TV show, and after 12 issues his logo was removed from the cover. The earlier issues were jammed with articles about all kinds of Pop and Rock performers, and had a monhtly feature called "Mod Mag," dedicated to the British Invasion
